Shipping restarts, but two ports remain closed

The Bulgarian Transport Ministry has reopened its section of the Danube to shipping as of late Friday night. However, two ports remain closed.

All of Bulgaria's Danube ports are functioning "normally", with the exception of Port Silistra and Port Tutrakan, which were badly damaged by the recent ice float, the ministry told reporters. In mid-February, the Danube River froze near Port Silistra — the first time in 20 years.

The Bulgarian Maritime Administration has warned all vessels to be alert since not all navigation signs have been restored yet.
