C-TPAT Overview
Soon after the 9/11 incident, the U.S. Government became increasingly concerned the possibility of moving weapons, explosives, and terrorists into the U.S. via vessels, aircraft, railroads, and trucks. A series of import regulations to secure the U.S. borders from further terrorist attacks was imposed. The U.S. Bureau of Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is the major government agency to enforce the new security initiatives.
CBP has introduced several key import security measures since early 2002 and Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT) program is one of them. This program greatly encourages partnership between the U.S. government and the importers to secure the safety of the U.S. from various types of terrorist threats.
If your entity is not yet eligible for C-TPAT Certification, you can choose to be C-TPAT Compliant. Your business may not have to be certified, however, your clients may still request your company to be compliance with C-TPAT requirements as your commitment to the security measures. Being compliant guarantees the continued relationship with your C-TPAT certified business partners and certainly assists you secure more business in this economic situation.
C-TPAT Certification
